I'm posting this template here for those who don't think they can make the deadline, and/or would like to complete this meme on their own at their leisure. Hopefully it will kick a few dollers in the inspirationpants! NOTE: you do NOT have to be a TLC member to attempt this meme!



Here's the How-To and Rules:

What is a Style Race?
It's part art meme, and part base race. You doll one character in eight different styles. You are free to choose your base as long as it fits within the parameters of the dictated style.


What is a Fashion Style Race?
It's Project Runway meets Style Race! Follow the prompts and design eight different kinds of fashion for your character, while still remaining true to their personality and spirit.

There are two new rules for this race:

1) ALL CLOTHES YOU DOLL FOR THIS CHALLENGE MUST BE ORIGINAL AND DIRECTLY FROM YOUR OWN BRAIN. Please do not copy an outfit your character normally wears, or a picture of a dress you've seen on the internet. Push yourself creatively and design your own clothes!

2) DO NOT USE THE SAME BASE TWICE! That includes different poses from the same base set. Why? For the challenge, and also to make things feel more meme-y and less pageant-y.


How-To:
Step 1: Choose a character. It can be a pre-existing character from a book, movie, TV series, play, etc., it can be your muse, it can be an OC of yours, it can even be YOU. Just make sure it's a character you're going to want to work with for awhile (you'll be dolling them eight different ways!).

Step 2: Once you've decided to join, start a thread (with your name in the topic somewhere) stating your intent to join. Feel free to include a picture, drawing, or screen grab of your character, so everyone can see what your character looks like in their normal clothes. You will post all your race dolls in your thread as you make them . . . and feel free to chat about your progress too!

You do not have to be a member to join the race. You can post as a guest, but you'll have to PM me or one of our admins or mods to start a thread for you (sorry - we just can't find a way around that!).

Step 3: Start making your dolls! Don't forget to read all the rules and parameters carefully!

STYLE PARAMETERS

1)Red Carpet
Glitz, glamour and gowns! Snappy suits! If your character was going to the Oscars, what (or who) would they wear? Please note: NO FASHION REBELS allowed! There must be at least some element of red carpet style in the outfit, even if your character wouldn't be caught dead wearing an elegant dress or a tux. (If Diane Keaton can wear a pants suit at every award show, then so can your character . . . but it still has to look nice).


2) Outerwear
Clothes one wears out-of-doors. In other words, I want to see COATS. It doesn't necessarily have to be a coat for -20 degree weather . . . it can be a rain coat, an opera coat, a shrug or a poncho. Please consider adding other outdoor accoutrements: boots, scarves, hats, gloves, umbrellas, ski poles . . . . .


3) Japanese Street Fashion
There are many categories of Japanese street fashion, but I'd like you to lean towards the more outlandish and colourful end of the spectrum. Keep it loud, strange, cute, with a good measure of "Whaaaa . . . ?" thrown in for good measure!

4) Lingerie/Loungewear
Hopefully, lingerie needs no explanation. The addition of loungewear is to broaden the sexy spectrum a bit for you. If your character is going to bed, is it to sleep or . . . not to sleep? Will it be a skimpy negligee or a pair of flannel pajamas with fuzzy slippers and a robe tonight?


5) Avant Garde
Arty inventiveness. Meticulous craziness. Please go absolutely nuts, although try and to portray your character's personality/theme/values/conflicts through the design.

6) Sportswear
Clothes designed for sports and exercise. This could be anything from yoga pants and a tank, to a sports uniform, to a bowling shirt. What kind of sport or exercise would your character engage in? Would he/she be in the gym, in a dojo, or on a sports field? If your character is a fighter/hunter-type, please try and channel their outfit into an "official" fighting outfit/uniform that meshes with what they do: ultimate fighting, boxing, wrestling, martial arts, fencing, archery, etc. For the purposes of this challenge, "zombie slayer" or "assassin" isn't an "official" sport.


7) Bridal
Dress your character as if they were getting married, or in the bridal party. Bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses and appropriate suits are all fair game. A bridal dress doesn't necessarily have to be white, but it definitely needs to look wedding-y. Bridesmaid dresses can be as lovely or as hideous as you wish, as long as they look like they belong at a wedding.


8 ) 2013 Fashion Trends
For the last category, you will design an outfit for your character that incorporates some of the hot new fashion trends for 2013. You can design anything you want, from haute couture to something casual, as long as you incorporate TWO of the following trends:

2013 trends, according to Glamour, Vogue and Style:
- Head to toe black and white
- Statement sunglasses
- Bold stripes
- Beautiful beading
- Shorts suits (meaning this)
- Sporty dresses
- Edwardian Drama (think Downton Abbey)
- Supersized handbags
- Skirts over trousers
- Cobalt blue
- Veiled looks
- Asian influence
